Orlando Bloom Breaks Silence on Katy Perry Split Says Nothing but Love

Orlando Bloom opened up about his split from Katy Perry during a recent television appearance, offering his first public comments on their breakup.

The 48-year-old actor spoke with Today’s Craig Melvin on Friday while promoting his new film, The Cut. When asked about the personal changes in his life, Bloom kept his response positive.

“I’m great, man. I’m so grateful,” Bloom said on the morning show.

He focused on their 5-year-old daughter Daisy, saying, “We have the most beautiful daughter. You know when you leave everything on the field like I did in this movie? I feel grateful for all of it.”

“And we’re great. We’re going to be great. Nothing but love.”

Representatives for Perry, 40, and Bloom confirmed their split on July 3. PEOPLE first learned on June 26 that the couple had ended their engagement after several years together.

A source told PEOPLE at the time that Perry has “every intention of maintaining a positive and respectful relationship with Orlando.” The insider explained that “he’s the father of their daughter and that will always come first for her.”

“They’ve been through a lot together and while they’ve decided to go their separate ways, there’s still a mutual respect between them,” the source continued.

Both are committed to co-parenting Daisy. “They’re still very much in touch and co-parenting Daisy together. For the sake of their daughter, they’re committed to keeping things amicable.”

Social Media Hints

While Friday’s interview marked Bloom’s first direct public comments about the split, he had shared some telling social media posts earlier.

The actor reposted inspiring quotes on his Instagram Stories on June 30, just days after news of the breakup became public.

Two days later, the Pirates of the Caribbean star shared a carousel of quotes from psychiatrist Carl Jung. The posts explored themes of loneliness and the idea that even happy lives need balance through sadness.

New Film Challenges

Bloom’s appearance on Today centered on promoting The Cut, his new thriller that required intense physical transformation.

In the film, Bloom plays an ex-boxer whose championship career ended in defeat. When he trains for a comeback, “obsession takes hold and reality unravels – and he may be spiraling into something far more terrifying.”

The role demanded significant physical changes from Bloom.

“What I hadn’t expected and was surprised by was the mental toll that this kind of intense discipline takes,” Bloom told PEOPLE last month. “The paranoia and anxiety were very real and disturbing, caused by the lack of sleep – turns out you can’t sleep when you’re hungry!”

Bloom lost 30 pounds in approximately three months under supervision from nutritionist Philip Goglia. His blood work was monitored weekly throughout the process.

The Lord of the Rings actor warned that his training methods are “definitely not something to try at home.”

“Ultimately, this is a story about the struggles we all face and what it takes to battle our internal demons and find self-acceptance,” Bloom said about the film’s deeper themes.

The Cut is now playing in theaters.
