Marieangela King, the estranged wife of Cher’s son Elijah Blue Allman, is speaking publicly for the first time about their ongoing divorce proceedings. PEOPLE reports exclusively that King is finding peace despite the tumultuous end to their 13-year marriage.
The 40-year-old musician filed for divorce from Allman in November 2021, citing irreconcilable differences.
“I’ve spent years trying to save our marriage,” King told PEOPLE. “But I’ve finally reached a place where I can focus on my own healing.”
King describes the decision to end the marriage as the most difficult of her life. The couple wed in 2013 after meeting through mutual friends in the music industry.
Their relationship has been marked by struggles with addiction and family tensions.
Family Dynamics and Legal Battles
The divorce comes amid ongoing legal disputes involving Cher and her attempts to establish a conservatorship over Allman. The “Believe” singer has expressed concerns about her son’s well-being and ability to manage his affairs.
King maintains she still hopes for reconciliation with her estranged husband.
“Despite everything we’ve been through, I still love him,” she said. “If he’s willing to do the work, I’d be open to trying again.”
The couple has no children together. Allman, 47, is the son of Cher and her late ex-husband Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band.
Moving Forward
King, who performs professionally as a singer-songwriter, says she’s channeling her experiences into new music. She’s been working on material that reflects this difficult period in her life.
“Music has always been my therapy,” she explained. “Writing about this pain has helped me process everything.”
The divorce proceedings are ongoing in Los Angeles Superior Court. Neither Allman nor his representatives have responded to requests for comment.
King says she’s grateful for the support of friends and family during this transition. She’s also focusing on her mental health and personal growth.
“I’m learning to find peace in uncertainty,” she said. “Some days are harder than others, but I’m in a much better place than I was a year ago.”
The musician plans to continue her career while navigating the legal complexities of the divorce. She hopes sharing her story will help others going through similar struggles.
