Kim Kardashian opened up about the ongoing challenges of co-parenting with Kanye West during the season 7 premiere of The Kardashians. The reality star got candid about protecting their four children from West’s erratic behavior.
Kardashian, 45, was filming her upcoming Ryan Murphy series All’s Fair when she discussed how recent stress has affected her health.
“I haven’t had psoriasis since I got divorced, and it just started coming back,”
she revealed during filming breaks between scenes with co-stars Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts and Niecy Nash-Betts.
The SKIMS founder said she recently felt “pretty tested” by West. She married the rapper in 2014 and divorced him in 2021.
“I felt more stressed, probably just because I had to super, super protect what I had to protect.”
Protecting the Kids
When asked what goes through her mind during West’s public outbursts, Kardashian’s response was immediate.
“My poor kids. Everyone around can handle it, but like, protect my babies.”
Kardashian and West share four children: North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.
She revealed that one of their kids recently heard about some of their father’s behavior. Kardashian said her priority is shielding them from the fallout.
“They’re gonna know things. They’re gonna grow up, they’re gonna see. So my job as a mom is to just make sure that – at a time when that behavior is happening – is just to make sure that they’re protected.”
Looking Back on Their Marriage
Kardashian reflected on her seven-year marriage to the 48-year-old rapper. She admitted feeling trapped in a cycle of trying to help him.
“I always felt like I had a bit of Stockholm syndrome. I always felt really bad and always protected and always wanted to help [him].”
She used to think thoughts like “I should’ve stuck it out” or “I could’ve helped.” But Kardashian said this was the first time she didn’t feel that personal responsibility.
“It is so f—— sad,”
she added about their current relationship.
Setting the Record Straight
Kardashian pushed back against claims that she has the luxury of avoiding West completely.
“That’s not my reality. This person – we have 4 kids together. It’s very confusing, because it’ll be all this talk on the internet of like, ‘I’m keeping the kids.’ He’s never once called and asked [to see them].”
She said she’ll wake up to see accusations on Twitter that she’s keeping the children from their father.
“When it’s not true and not rational, I just have to … I can’t engage all the time. It’s a divorce – not a kidnapping.”
New episodes of The Kardashians drop Thursdays on Hulu.
