Will Arnett Reveals Amy Poehler’s Golden Globe Nomination Reaction

Will Arnett revealed the text messages his ex-wife Amy Poehler sent him after both of their podcasts received Golden Globe nominations, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The SmartLess co-host shared the exchange during an interview about his new film Is This Thing On? The conversation happened right after the Golden Globes announced their first-ever Best Podcast category on Monday, Dec. 8.

Both Arnett’s SmartLess and Poehler’s Good Hang made the nomination list.

“Congrats. Let’s party,” Poehler wrote in the message, as Arnett told THR with a laugh. “I don’t have Bateman’s number, but that’s for the best.”

Arnett, 55, co-hosts SmartLess with Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes. Poehler, 54, hosts Good Hang.

The former couple will compete against Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast and Up First for the new award.

Arnett and Poehler were married from 2003 until they separated in 2012. Their divorce was finalized in 2016.

The pair share two teenage sons: Archie, 17, and Abel, 15.

Arnett also has a son Alexander Denison, whom he welcomed in 2020 with ex-girlfriend Alessandra Brawn. He’s currently dating supermodel Carolyn Murphy, as PEOPLE confirmed in September.

The timing of the podcast nominations coincides with Arnett’s new comedy-drama Is This Thing On? The Bradley Cooper-directed film explores divorce themes that hit close to home for the actor.

Arnett stars alongside Laura Dern as a man and woman on the verge of divorcing while raising two young sons.

“Obviously, it’s not inspired by my story, but there are themes in there that I connect to,” Arnett told THR. “I’m just a sum of all of my own experiences, and you bring some of that into what you do. I mean, you try to be sensitive, but it would be weird if I didn’t connect dots on certain things.”

Is This Thing On? hits theaters Dec. 19.

Comedian Nikki Glaser will host the 83rd annual Golden Globes live on Sunday, Jan. 11. The ceremony will mark the first time podcasts compete for a Golden Globe award.
