Cardi B opened up about her marriage to Offset during a Call Her Daddy appearance on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The rapper reflected on their seven-year relationship and why she doesn’t regret the experience.
“Even in the long marriage that I was in, there’s a lot of things that I regret, and there’s a lot of things that people are gonna be like, ‘You see, you wasted your time,’ but I don’t feel like it was a waste of time,” the 32-year-old explained.
“I see what comes with being a wife, being a mom, so I experienced that. It’s like I have to experience pain, I have to experience good times, I have to experience what it was like to have a family and to be a wife.”
The “Safe” performer said it’s each person’s choice to “stay or go” in a relationship. She wouldn’t “blame” anyone for their decision.
Cardi knew the marriage was over when her body started “rejecting” the relationship.
“I really just don’t regret anything. It is what it is. If your heart is not ready, it’s just not ready,” she said. “I felt like I was getting really sick and it’s like, ‘Alright this is dead.'”
The Timeline of Their Split
Cardi and Offset, 33, got married in 2017. They share three children: daughters Kulture Kiari, 7, and Blossom Belle, 1, and son Wave Set, 4.
Their relationship had multiple “separation moments” where they wouldn’t see or talk for two to three months.
“Nobody’s going to ever know your complete business,” Cardi noted.
The couple’s divorce timeline was complicated. Cardi first filed for divorce in September 2020 but they reconciled. She confirmed their split in December 2023, then filed for divorce a second time in July 2024.
New Music Reflects on the Marriage
On her new album Am I the Drama?, Cardi addresses their relationship’s end. The song “Man of Your Word” includes personal lyrics about their seven years together.
During a CBS Mornings interview on Sept. 17, host Gayle King read some of the lyrics back to her.
“Seven years I admit, it wasn’t all bad / Skeletons in my closet too / As a wife I should’ve realized you were hurt / But instead I put my music first / But I really do wish you the best / Continue being a winner / If I had one wish / I wish you would’ve been a man of your word.”
“I just wish he was a better person, but it is what it is,” Cardi responded. “Be a better person for your kids.”
The rapper said she’s “so tired” of being associated with Offset.
“I filed for divorce a year ago. That should be very clear. I don’t deal with that, I don’t mess with that, I don’t have no contact with that.”
Despite everything, Cardi doesn’t have “hate in my heart anymore” and hopes they can co-parent effectively in the future.
“I think he has some type of hate in his heart right now… I don’t know how long that’s gonna take for him but that’s always been my wish,” she said.
