Jillian Lauren-Shriner has filed for divorce from Weezer bassist Scott Shriner after nearly two decades of marriage, according to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Lauren-Shriner cited “irreconcilable differences” in her filing. She didn’t list a separation date in the court documents.
The couple married in November 2005 in Hawaii and share two teenage sons: Jovanni Starshine, 13, and Tariku Moon, 17. Lauren-Shriner is seeking joint legal and physical custody of both children.
The 52-year-old is requesting spousal support from Shriner, 60.
She also asked the court to terminate its ability to award Shriner any spousal support. Lauren-Shriner requested that Shriner pay her attorney fees and that her last name be restored to Lauren.
The divorce filing comes months after Lauren-Shriner announced her breast cancer diagnosis on Instagram in March. She later shared that she underwent two back-to-back surgeries, including a full hysterectomy.
Police Shooting Incident
On April 8, Lauren-Shriner was shot by police near the couple’s home in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood.
Police were conducting a manhunt for three suspects involved in a hit-and-run who had fled to the Shriners’ neighborhood. Lauren-Shriner had no connection to the hit-and-run incident.
She was armed and fired her weapon at an officer while in a backyard, according to police.
“She repeatedly ignored police commands to disarm and that she fired her weapon at LAPD officers,” LAPD spokesperson Jennifer Forkish told PEOPLE at the time.
A responding officer shot Lauren-Shriner once in the shoulder. She was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Lauren-Shriner was initially booked on an attempted murder charge before being released on a $1 million bond.
She was later charged with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm. Court documents obtained by PEOPLE show she was granted a diversion program instead of jail time for mental health issues.
