Quinta Brunson and Kevin Anik reached a settlement agreement in their divorce proceedings, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The Abbott Elementary creator, 35, finalized the settlement on Monday, Sept. 22. That’s six months after she first filed for divorce in March.
The documents show Brunson and Anik agreed to an uncontested divorce. This eliminates the need for further legal involvement.
The papers state that “the parties entered into a Postnuptial Agreement which governs the disposition of their property.” Both agreed to pay their own attorneys fees. They also listed their date of separation as Dec. 1, 2024, after leaving it undetermined in the initial filing.
The settlement details remain private.
Because the former couple made a written agreement outside of court, the exact terms aren’t known. However, the declaration indicates it includes an arrangement regarding spousal support.
Once a judge signs off on the request to finalize the petition, Brunson and Anik will officially be divorced.
Three-Year Marriage Ends
Brunson filed to dissolve her marriage to Anik in March, citing “irreconcilable differences.” They tied the knot in October 2021 and were married for over three years.
The actress opened up about the difficulty of keeping her personal life private during an interview for a Bustle cover story in June. This was the first time that Brunson addressed the split publicly.
Brunson rarely spoke about her relationship during the marriage.
“Even if you don’t give a lot, people want whatever they can get, and will take whatever they can get,” she told the outlet. “I remember seeing people be like, ‘She announced her divorce.’ I didn’t announce anything. I think people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move. None of us do. I promise you.”
“No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life – it’s just that that’s public record information,” Brunson continued before adding, “I hate all of it.”
Finding Balance as a Celebrity
She went on to say that she’s gained more experience finding balance as a celebrity over the years. This has taught her to brush off opinions from people who don’t actually know her.
“Those are invisible voices that aren’t in your home with you, that aren’t in your personal life, that aren’t your friends,” she noted. “I love my fans, I love the people who watch Abbott. So you want to hear them, and you want to listen to them, but when it comes to matters of your personal life and decisions you make, you do have to tune it out.”
Brunson acknowledged she was in “a transitional time.”
She’s focused on prioritizing herself as she moves forward.
“I think it’s true for me and my personal life, and it’s how I feel about myself, my career, and the world,” she explained. “I feel very serious about focusing on watering my own gardens, taking care of myself and the people around me who I actually interact with day-to-day.”
“I used to look at that as a selfish thing,” she also admitted. “But there’s a reason they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before you try to help someone else.”
