Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from husband Keith Urban on Tuesday, and a source tells PEOPLE the actress is moving on.
The Big Little Lies star, 57, appears to be handling the split with surprising calm, according to someone close to the situation.
“She’s surprisingly level-headed and calm about the whole thing,” the source reveals. “Nicole’s just focused on what’s ahead.”
The couple, who married in 2006, had been together for 18 years. They share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Court documents filed in Nashville cite irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
Kidman’s representatives haven’t responded to requests for comment. Urban’s team also declined to speak on the matter.
The Academy Award winner has several upcoming projects keeping her busy. She’s currently filming the Amazon series Lioness and has two films set for release next year.
Signs of Trouble
The pair hadn’t been photographed together publicly since early December. Urban also performed solo at several holiday events where Kidman typically would have accompanied him.
Sources close to the family say the decision was mutual. Both stars want to keep things amicable for their daughters’ sake.
“They’re committed to co-parenting and maintaining stability for the girls,” another insider notes.
Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001. They adopted two children together: Isabella, 31, and Connor, 29.
Urban, 57, is known for hits like “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and “The Fighter.” He’s served as a coach on The Voice Australia and judge on American Idol.
The country star has been open about his struggles with addiction and how Kidman supported his recovery over the years.
Nicole Kidman won an Oscar for The Hours in 2003 and has earned four additional nominations. She’s also received five Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards throughout her career.
The actress owns properties in Nashville, New York, and her native Australia. It’s unclear how assets will be divided as part of the divorce proceedings.
