Matt Armato and Beau Ciolino announced their breakup after 12 years together via a TikTok video posted August 16.
The digital creators behind Probably This shared the news on their joint social media account. The couple had been creating content together for over 10 years.
Their New Orleans-based LGBTQ lifestyle blog featured relationship updates, recipes and DIY tutorials.
“Um, we broke up,”
Armato said at the start of the video.
Ciolino explained their decision came from a place of love.
“I think that there is so much love between us and really loving someone knows when to change the format of the relationship. And we’ve decided to just be best friends.”
Armato acknowledged the unusual nature of announcing such personal news publicly.
“This is like the dumbest video I think I can imagine. This belongs in my journal, not like out there, but I want you to know I’m single.”
The former couple emphasized they remain on good terms. They’ve continued vacationing together during the transition and plan to maintain their friendship.
“We’re really lucky to be on great terms and to respect each other so much and to still have so much love for each other,”
Ciolino said.
Response to Fan Speculation
Armato posted a follow-up statement on his Instagram Stories the next day. He addressed fan theories and speculation about their split.
“This is a deeply painful transition, and while I understand why people are speculating about our dynamic, I don’t want this to become a pile-on against Beau,”
Armato wrote.
He defended Ciolino against criticism from supporters.
“He is not a villain, he is a human, and a really beautiful one at that.”
Armato asked fans not to take sides in the breakup.
“Please know that there are no teams here. I see your compassion and I appreciate it, but if your support for me looks like tearing him down I don’t want it.”
Content Creation Moving Forward
The pair will continue operating their social media presence separately. Armato will run the @ProbablyThis TikTok account while Ciolino manages their Instagram account.
Both creators indicated they’ll continue posting content under the Probably This brand.
