Madelyn Cline made rare comments about her past relationship with Pete Davidson in a new interview with Allure.
The 27-year-old Outer Banks actress poked fun at the brief romance during the magazine’s July 10 cover story.
“The jokes, they write themselves. And I said it before, and I’ll say it again, that is my only comment,” Cline said about her time with Davidson.
She added one more observation about the Saturday Night Live alum.
“He has a really cute dog and some really great girlfriends now.”
Cline and Davidson were first linked in September 2023. They confirmed their split by the following July, though Cline previously told Nylon that the breakup happened earlier in the year than initially reported.
The actress hasn’t said much about the relationship since then. Her Allure comments mark some of her most candid remarks about Davidson to date.
Davidson’s Dating History
Davidson has been linked to several high-profile stars over the years. He was engaged to Ariana Grande before they called things off in October 2018.
His other relationships have included Kim Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski, Chase Sui Wonders, Kaia Gerber, Kate Beckinsale and Margaret Qualley.
He’s currently dating actress Elsie Hewitt. The couple made it Instagram official in March 2025 and had their red carpet debut in May.
A source told PEOPLE in October 2024 that Davidson maintains friendly terms with “pretty much all his exes.”
“He’s a good guy, and they root for him,” the insider said, specifically noting that “nothing bad happened between him and Madelyn.”
“It just ran its course,” the source explained about the split.
Staying Friends With Exes
Davidson has spoken publicly about maintaining good relationships after breakups. In February, he threw his support behind Grande as she competed for Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards for Wicked.
“When we see each other, which is few and far between, because we’re not in the same circles, it’s all love,” he told Page Six. “I hope she wins the Oscar, I hope she takes the gold.”
He continued: “I’ve had some pretty adult relationships with some pretty amazing women, and when it’s ended, it’s been cool.”
Davidson also addressed the intense media scrutiny of his love life. He called the attention “pretty humiliating and upsetting,” comparing himself to other actors like Paul Mescal and Timothée Chalamet who don’t face the same level of coverage.
“Everyone is dating everyone, and it’s Hollywood,” he said. “But because I’m ugly, they wrote about me. I was harassed for like, five years, and it made my life a living hell.”
The comedian noted that the focus on his relationships overshadowed his career achievements. “I was one of the youngest-ever cast members on SNL and all that got pushed to the side because of who I was dating.”
Cline’s Current Relationship Status
Since dating Davidson, Cline’s love life has stayed out of the public eye. She did shut down a rumor linking her to Charles Melton in March 2025.
She confirmed to Allure that she’s currently single. The magazine noted that “her demanding travel schedule has made it difficult to date.”
But there’s more to her decision to stay single.
“I want to experience this life on my terms first, before I do all the relationship stuff,” she said. “When I go to work, I get pretty locked in, and I get really, really overwhelmed sometimes when the priorities start stacking up and I’m trying to figure out where to put my energy.”
Learning From Past Relationships
Before Davidson, Cline was most notably linked to her Outer Banks costar Chase Stokes. The couple dated for a year before separating in November 2021.
Speaking on the Therapuss podcast in March, she explained that she didn’t consider what it meant to share her love life publicly until after the split.
“I didn’t understand. I was just so in love. And, you know, people loved it. I think they loved it because of us, but they also loved John B and Sarah, first and foremost,” she said, referring to their Outer Banks characters.
The breakup left her questioning her identity.
“There was a period of time there where I truly did not know which way was up, which way was down,” Cline admitted.
She explained that “Banks and that public relationship was kind of my identity. And I was like, ‘Who the f— am I?’ I’m still figuring that out. But figuring that out and who you are in the public space just is truly such a mindf—.”
The actress appears to be taking time to focus on herself and her career as she continues working on the hit Netflix series and other projects.
