Kenny Rodriguez and JaNa Craig’s breakup last month caught Love Island USA fans off guard. New details from Love Island: Beyond the Villa show their relationship had problems for months before the split.
A source confirmed to PEOPLE on July 28 that the couple had ended their relationship. “They will not be getting back together,” the source said at the time.
The Season 6 cast reunited for Peacock’s spinoff series, giving viewers a closer look at what went wrong.
Anniversary Date Goes Wrong
In the August 7 episode, Kenny, 25, and JaNa, 28, celebrated their nine-month anniversary with a date night. Things went downhill quickly.
JaNa pointed out they’d technically been together for 10 months, but Kenny had a “side piece for a whole three days.” She was referring to Casa Amor, when he recoupled with another woman while she stayed loyal.
Kenny fired back that JaNa had “two side pieces.” When she asked if he’d “shared a bed” with someone in Casa Amor, he didn’t want to discuss it.
The conversation shifted briefly when JaNa complimented Kenny’s communication skills. “You’re a mature woman,” he told her.
“Yeah, I pride myself on being mature,” JaNa replied. “But I think you’re teaching me patience.”
Living Together Becomes a Problem
The romantic mood disappeared when they discussed moving in together.
JaNa revealed new details about their earlier conversation on the topic. She “started bawling crying, and then I hung up” after Kenny “full-on said no” to living together.
“Obviously, I jumped the gun, like I should’ve just listened to what you had to say, but I was so frustrated, I think I was really embarrassed,” she admitted.
She said she’d come to accept the arrangement. “And now, I guess I do like the separation [and] space. Like, after we spend the whole night together, I come back to my room and you have yours. It’s fine.”
Friends Get Involved
Kenny mentioned he’d talked to Miguel Harichi about their living situation. Miguel “didn’t know that we were living separately.”
“What’d you tell him?” JaNa asked.
“I just mentioned the fact that we like our space,” Kenny said.
“That’s not true,” JaNa responded. “I want to be smothered in your space.”
Kenny didn’t hold back. “I want my space.”
JaNa’s real concern was that Kenny was telling friends they “both wanted space,” which wasn’t “the case.” He clarified: “I voiced to him [that] I want separation from you.”
After seeing JaNa get upset, he tried to explain. “Like I wanted to live separately. Sorry, that was unclear.”
The Date Falls Apart
JaNa claimed the living arrangement didn’t “bother” her and they’d “have more problems if we lived together.” But as they left the restaurant, both confided in producers.
“Oh f—,” Kenny said as JaNa got in the car.
When a producer asked what happened, JaNa explained: “Whenever he gets upset, he gets very, very quiet first.”
In the car, JaNa confronted Kenny again. “You full-on said, ‘Let’s live separate because I need space and it’s too soon.’ Okay, cool, I respect it. But then you go tell our friends?”
“Bro,” Kenny replied. “I’m ready to just dip.”
The Official Split
Speculation had swirled that the couple fought at David Dobrik’s birthday party on July 26. But the source who confirmed their split insisted “there was no big, public blowout.”
JaNa addressed breakup theories on her Instagram Stories on July 29. “None have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is.”
“Discovering that someone you loved isn’t who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn’t been genuine since day one has been truly devastating.”
