Matt Roloff announced that his engagement to Caryn Chandler has ended after more than two years together.
The Little People, Big World star shared the news in an Instagram post on July 22. He’s 63 years old.
“Hi everyone, I have some tough news to share. Caryn and I have decided to part ways & end our engagement. Life’s a continued journey and this is the right step for us at this time.”
Roloff added that they “remain amicable and will always appreciate the many wonderful memories we have shared.”
Their Relationship Timeline
Chandler first met Roloff when she became an employee at Roloff Farms. They began dating in 2017, one year after Roloff divorced his former wife Amy Roloff.
The couple was open about their relationship on the TLC show. During the 20th season, Roloff said his “goal” was to “eventually” marry Chandler.
Chandler said she was “here for the long haul” at the time.
“I think we’re all trying to overcome whatever stuff we have because we’re going to be together. It’s always going to probably be a little bit awkward no matter what we do, but it’s getting better and we just roll with the punches.”
Roloff called Chandler his “rock” in a 2021 Instagram post. He wrote that she knows “how to take some random structure I build and make it come alive with energy and soul.”
They moved in together in 2022. Roloff called it “a whole new major chapter in life” during an August 2022 LPBW episode.
The Engagement
Roloff told PEOPLE exclusively in April 2023 that he and Chandler got engaged.
“After six wonderful years together, I asked Caryn to marry me and she said yes! Our plan is to enjoy our engagement and we are looking forward to a simple but elegant wedding in 2024.”
A month later, he shared an update on Instagram. He said he was “making TV shows and mostly just enjoying my engagement and Time with Caryn!”
He joked with fans in the comments: “You all kept telling me to ‘put a ring on her.’ So I did. .”
The wedding was planned for 2024 but never took place.
Family Dynamics
Roloff shares four children with ex-wife Amy: Zach, 34, Jeremy, 34, Molly, 30, and Jacob, 28.
Amy married Chris Marek in August 2021, more than five years after she and Matt finalized their divorce in April 2016. The families maintain a friendly relationship.
In an April 2024 Little People, Big World episode, Chandler talked about the challenges of blending families.
“Blending families, that’s a tough one. Some go better than others, in my case I’ve learned that boundaries are healthy in second relationships. I don’t have any regrets about the relationship that existed and getting close to the kids but I learned a valuable lesson that maybe sometimes less is more, so I’m treading lightly.”
Despite the challenges, Chandler said she believed “everyone is happy for us overall.”
