Lily Allen Reflects on Pain from First Marriage After David Harbour Split

Lily Allen reflected on her recent separation from David Harbour and gained new perspective on her first marriage, according to an interview with Observer UK.

The singer-songwriter told the publication she now has a “better idea” of the pain she may have caused during her first marriage to Sam Cooper.

Allen’s comments come months after confirming her split from Stranger Things actor Harbour.

The 39-year-old artist opened up about how experiencing the end of her second marriage gave her insight into her ex-husband’s feelings. Allen and Cooper were married from 2011 to 2018 and share two daughters together.

She admitted that going through her own divorce proceedings with Harbour helped her understand the emotional impact her actions may have had years earlier.

“I think I have a better idea now of the pain I might have caused in my first marriage,” Allen said in the interview.

Allen didn’t elaborate on specific details about either relationship.

The “Smile” singer has been open about her personal struggles over the years. She’s previously discussed addiction issues and relationship challenges in interviews and her 2018 memoir.

Allen and Harbour married in 2020 after meeting on a dating app. The couple kept their relationship relatively private compared to Allen’s previous high-profile romances.

The actor is known for his role as Jim Hopper in Netflix’s hit series. He’s also appeared in films like Black Widow and Hellboy.

Allen’s first marriage to Cooper ended in divorce after seven years. The builder and decorator largely stayed out of the public eye during their relationship.

Their daughters are now in their teens. Allen has spoken about prioritizing her children’s privacy and maintaining a cordial co-parenting relationship with Cooper.

The singer hasn’t announced any new music projects recently. Her last studio album was No Shame in 2018, which dealt with themes of personal growth and relationship breakdowns.

Allen’s career began in the mid-2000s with hits like “LDN” and “The Fear.” She’s sold millions of records worldwide and won several awards including a BRIT Award and Ivor Novello Awards.

The interview marks one of the few times Allen has discussed her split from Harbour publicly. The couple confirmed their separation earlier this year but haven’t provided extensive details about their reasons for divorcing.
