Fans will see Kim Plath experience a bittersweet moment as her daughter Lydia shops for wedding dresses in season 7 of Welcome to Plathville.
The mom of nine reacts to Lydia trying on the gown she wore on her wedding day with her now-estranged husband, Barry Plath, in an upcoming episode airing on TLC on Aug. 26.
“When I see my old wedding dress, of course, I think about Barry. Divorce shouldn’t be the first thing you think of when you see a wedding dress, but right now, for me, it kind of is,”
reflected Kim, who filed for divorce on June 26, 2024, two years after she and Barry separated.
“But, if we hadn’t gotten married, we wouldn’t have all of our kids that we have now and they’re all amazing people.”
Kim and Barry share eight children in addition to Lydia: Hosanna, Ethan, Micah, Moriah, Isaac, Amber, Caria and Mercy. Their son Joshua died in 2008 following a farm accident.
Trying on the 30-year-old dress was an even more special experience for Lydia. She recalls wanting to wear her mom’s heirloom her “whole life.”
“You see pictures of it growing up, and you see the box it’s in. There’s a beautiful dress in there.”
The clip shows the bride-to-be fulfilling her wishes and beaming in the vintage ensemble. The dress featured flower decorations along the off-the-shoulder style, a fitted bodice, decorated sleeves, and a skirt that flows into a half-circle train.
“I love the waist,”
says Lydia as she looks at herself in the mirror, while Kim watches on with a smile.
In a confessional, 15-year-old Amber, the third youngest Plath sibling, jokes that her mom’s dress is “beautiful” – but something that “you’d wear like 400 years ago. Medieval, almost.”
Lydia’s February Wedding
Lydia married her husband, Zac Wyse, on Feb. 22, just two months after getting engaged.
The two dated for six months before tying the knot at her family’s farm in a ceremony attended by 115 of their family and friends.
Sharing details of the ceremony with PEOPLE, Lydia said she chose a “white gown with the perfect balance of lace and sparkle, while remaining very light and flowy.”
“What made me choose this dress was how it fit my personality. It wasn’t just my choice, but many people who were there when I tried it on agreed that the dress was very much me. It’s a dress that makes me feel free and graceful.”
While Lydia didn’t choose to rewear her mom’s archival look, she did recycle one precious token from her parents’ nuptials.
As part of their menu, Lydia and Zac chose a strawberry cheesecake decorated with her mom and dad’s cake topper.
