Dreka Gates filed for divorce from rapper Kevin Gates on Wednesday, July 30, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE from the Superior Court of Los Angeles.
The filing ends the couple’s nine-year marriage and comes nearly a month after Brittany Renner revealed her spiritual marriage to the “I Don’t Get Tired” rapper had ended on May 28.
Dreka Gates, 38, is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their two children Islah, 12, and Khaza, 11. She’s also seeking spousal support from Kevin, 39, and asking that he cover her attorney’s fees.
The businesswoman and brand creator lists July 10 as her separation date from Kevin in the court documents.
Renner’s Spiritual Marriage Revelation
The divorce filing comes more than two months after Renner disclosed her brief spiritual marriage to Gates during a June 7 interview with Los Angeles radio station REAL 92.3 LA.
“We got married April 6 and divorced May 28,” Renner, who recently converted to Islam, said at the time.
The influencer described their 52-day marriage as ending without regrets.
“I don’t feel like it’s a sucky situation because what is meant to be is always going to be,” said Renner.
She emphasized that she had no regrets about following her heart in the situation.
“I followed my heart and that’s what more than most people can say, and I think when you do that, you get all the clarity you need and there’s no stone left unturned and there’s no regret.”
The 33-year-old added that giving complete effort in relationships brings peace regardless of the outcome.
Kevin and Dreka Gates married in October 2015. Renner was previously involved with Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington, with whom she shares a 4-year-old child.
