Keith Urban addressed his fans directly during his Nashville concert, telling them to “stop reading” into his recent lyric changes amid his divorce from Nicole Kidman.
The country musician spoke out during his Oct. 17 performance at Bridgestone Arena, the final stop of his High and Alive World Tour.
“I’ve been covering like this for a long time. Stop reading s— into it. It’s called ‘You’ll Think of Me,'” Urban said, according to a TikTok video posted by a fan.
The 57-year-old singer had changed lyrics in his 2002 hit song. Instead of singing “But you’ll think of me,” he shouted “But I betcha think about me!”
He also switched “Take your space and take your reasons” to “all your bulls— reasons.”
Previous Lyric Changes Draw Attention
This wasn’t Urban’s first recent lyric modification to make headlines. He also changed words in “The Fighter,” his 2016 chart-topping duet with Carrie Underwood.
The song was originally inspired by a conversation Urban had with Kidman before their marriage.
During a performance with rising country star Maggie Baugh, Urban changed the original line “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” to “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”
Baugh, 25, shared the moment on Instagram with the caption “Did he just say that.”
She posted the footage on Sept. 26, before news of Urban and Kidman’s split became public.
Divorce Filing Details
Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from Urban on Sept. 30 following 19 years of marriage.
The couple’s separation was reported the day before the filing. Urban and Kidman married in June 2006 and share two daughters: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
Fan Interaction Moment
During the same Nashville show, Urban had an awkward moment during a fan interaction.
“What’s your name?” he asked a crowd member, according to video shared by Nashville Experience on Instagram.
When the fan’s response wasn’t clear through the microphone, Urban said, “What? I’m not going to like your name? What?”
The fan clarified: “It’s Nicole.”
Urban reacted with humor, dropping to the floor onstage and lying there for a moment as the crowd roared. He raised one arm to the sky in playful exasperation before getting back up.
The Big Little Lies actress, 58, and Urban had been one of country music’s most high-profile couples before their recent split.
