Representatives for Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom confirmed Thursday that the couple has ended their engagement after shifting to a coparenting arrangement over recent months.
The pop star, 40, and actor, 48, will focus on raising their 4½-year-old daughter Daisy Dove together despite ending their romantic relationship.
“Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting,” the statement read.
“They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
PEOPLE first reported the split late last month. The breakup ends nine years of on-and-off romance and six years after Bloom’s proposal in 2019.
Bloom has posted quotes about “new beginning” on social media since the split. He’s also shared quotes from psychiatrist Carl Jung about loneliness and sadness.
Perry made an emotional return to the stage during her Lifetimes tour stop in Adelaide, Australia. She appeared to fight back tears while wrapping that leg of the tour.
“Thank you for always being there for me Australia. It means the world,” she told the crowd before performing her 2010 hit “Firework.”
Later photos showed Perry enjoying herself around the continent.
Relationship Struggles
A source told PEOPLE on July 1 that the former couple had been living “on an island of stress” before their split.
“Katy and Orlando have been suffering through the same problems that have plagued them for years,” the source said. “Too much going on in their lives, which makes it hard to find time for each other and iron out disagreements.”
The source explained that poor communication led to relationship problems.
“When they don’t communicate properly, their relationship dips to a low level.”
A film industry source said their focus remained on Daisy despite the breakup.
“Sometimes love isn’t enough to keep two people with different styles and outlooks on how things are done together,” the source added. “It can overshadow the love.”
Perry and Bloom began dating in 2016 after meeting at a Golden Globes afterparty. They broke up in 2017 but got back together the following year.
The couple got engaged in 2019 and welcomed Daisy in 2020.
