Katy Perry released her latest single “Bandaids” on Thursday, Nov. 6, with an accompanying music video that appears to detail the end of her nine-year relationship with Orlando Bloom.
PEOPLE confirmed in June that Perry and Bloom had called off their engagement after getting engaged in February 2019.
The 41-year-old pop star’s new track offers insight into their relationship’s breakdown. In the music video, directed by Christian Breslauer, Perry accidentally drops her ring down a kitchen drain before experiencing a series of near-death experiences.
“Hand to God I promise I tried / There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t / You were there but you weren’t,” Perry sings in the opening. “Got so used to you letting me down / No use trying to send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change you don’t / Bandaids over a broken heart.”
The “Firework” singer acknowledges the relationship had positive moments despite its problems.
“If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end,” Perry sings.
During this moment in the music video, the camera focuses on a daisy flower. This appears to reference their 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.
Perry concludes the song by describing her efforts to save the relationship.
“Tried all the medications / Lowered my expectations / Made every justification / Bleeding out, bleeding out, bleeding out slow / Bandaids over a broken heart.”
“Bandaids” follows Perry’s sixth studio album 143, which she released in September 2024.
Official Statement on Split
Representatives for Perry and Bloom, 48, shared a statement with PEOPLE following confirmation of their split.
“Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.”
“They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
Perry recently confirmed she’s “dating someone else” during her Lifetimes Tour show in Prague. She’s been spending time with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
