Jessie J appears to hint at her breakup from Channing Tatum on her new album.
During a recent listening party in London for her upcoming album Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time, the pop star shared a song titled “Threw It Away,” which seems to reference their 2020 split, according to The Sun.
The 37-year-old singer didn’t mention Tatum by name. But she appeared to take aim at an ex, calling them a “beast.”
“This next song I wrote in 2020 with Ryan Tedder, and you can figure out who I was dating,” Jessie said.
The track includes pointed lyrics about putting her heart on the table and having her love thrown away. She sings about karma coming one day for the person who discarded her feelings.
“Don’t you dare rewrite the story / I’m the beauty, you’re the beast,” she sings later in the song.
The Timeline of Their Relationship
Jessie and the Magic Mike star had a complicated relationship timeline. They first got together in October 2018 after being spotted on a mini golf date.
The couple split in December 2019 after more than a year of dating. A source told PEOPLE at the time that while they tried to make it work, the “timing was off.”
They reconciled in January 2020. But their reunion was short-lived.
April 2020 marked their final breakup. A source confirmed to PEOPLE that they’d called it quits after realizing it was better to move on.
The source described the split as “totally amicable.” They said the pair “cared enough about each other to try again but realized it was better to move on.”
Tatum had just split from ex-wife Jenna Dewan months before he started dating Jessie. He shares daughter Everly with Dewan.
Jessie’s Health Journey
During the listening party, Jessie also reflected on her recent health challenges. She underwent a mastectomy in June after being diagnosed with early breast cancer.
“I’m grateful for the lessons and grateful for the connectivity it’s given me with so many people having cancer,” the “Domino” singer said.
She added that the experience has made her “a better parent” and “a better person.”
Jessie and boyfriend Chanan Colman welcomed their son, Sky Safir, in May 2023.
Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time releases Friday, November 28.
