Jessica Simpson and her estranged husband Eric Johnson spent Thanksgiving together with their family, according to TMZ.
The singer told the outlet that Johnson joined her and their three children at her mother Tina’s house for the holiday dinner.
“It’s my kids’ father. And all their grandparents [were there], they have a lot of ’em. Family first.”
Simpson, 45, and Johnson, 46, share three children together. Their daughters are Maxwell Drew, 13, and Birdie Mae, 6. Their son Ace Knute is 12 years old.
The couple announced their separation in January after nearly 10 years of marriage.
When asked for advice about handling breakups during the holidays, Simpson emphasized the importance of unconditional love.
“No matter what, your kid is half the other person, and [you should] always have respect in what you say around them so they can always have a good perspective on it.”
Simpson said her mother Tina handled most of the cooking duties. She and her sister Ashlee, 41, watched the Dallas Cowboys game during the celebration.
The “With You” singer released her Nashville Canyon EP in two parts earlier this year. She’s scheduled to perform at Foxwood Casino in Connecticut on December 7.
Johnson took their children to the Yale versus Harvard football game in New Haven on November 22. He played football at Yale before his professional career.
“They had fun doing that. It’s where their dad played. And they saw a huge billboard that was promoting [my] show, so they were like, ‘Mom!!!’ [They] sent me pictures.”
In October, Simpson spoke to PEOPLE about adjusting to life’s unexpected changes following her separation.
She acknowledged that being single again at 45 wasn’t part of her original plan. But she’s learned to accept that it’s part of her journey.
“I feel like we get caught up in numbers. Like, ‘Oh, at 45, would I think that I would be single again as a mom of three?’ Absolutely not. That was not how I planned it. But it’s just a part of what destiny holds for me.”
That same month, she told Extra at the premiere of All’s Fair that she’s embracing her single status. Simpson has a cameo role in the production.
“I think I’m into younger men at the moment. When you’re newly separated… I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older woman, I’m discovering. I am having fun!”
