Jennifer Lopez shared advice from her third divorce during her Las Vegas residency show on New Year’s Eve.
The actress and singer spoke to the crowd at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace about the wisdom she received after her marriage to Marc Anthony ended in 2014.
Lopez hugged her 17-year-old twins Max and Emme Muñiz on stage before delivering the speech. She wore a strapless fuchsia gown with a matching boa.
A Mother’s Moment
In an Instagram Reel posted Thursday, Lopez recalled her first residency show 10 years earlier when her kids were 7 years old.
“After the show they came up to me, and they said, one of them, Max, he came up and said, ‘Mommy, why don’t you ever wear pants on stage?’ And I thought, ‘Jesus Christ, what a crazy life. This is a bizarre life, right?'”
She told her son it was “because I’m a showgirl and I love to dance.”
“It seemed like a good excuse at the time. He was 7 years old. It was fine, but the truth is, I do, I love to dance,” Lopez said.
Life-Changing Advice
Lopez then shared what she learned during her lowest point after divorcing Anthony.
“I was very ready to give up on everything. My life was a mess,” she told the crowd.
She was a single mother with 3-year-old twins when mentor Louise Hay offered crucial guidance.
“Jennifer, you’re a dancer, right?”
Hay asked. When Lopez confirmed she was, Hay continued:
“When you’re learning a dance and you get the steps wrong, what do you do?”
Lopez replied she keeps going until she gets the steps right.
“Always keep dancing,”
Hay told her.
Passing It Forward
The Kiss of the Spider Woman star shared that same message with her audience.
“I wish the same for you. No matter what life throws at you that you dance, and you dance and you dance. Again and again and again. I love you,” she said before performing her 2012 hit “Dance Again” featuring Pitbull.
Lopez captioned the Instagram post: “HAPPY NEW YEAR live from Las Vegas! “
Marriage History
Lopez and Anthony were married from 2004 to 2014 and welcomed twins during that time. It was her third and longest marriage.
Her previous marriages were to model-waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003.
The Hustlers actress was most recently married to Ben Affleck for two years before filing for divorce in August 2024.
A source recently told PEOPLE that Lopez isn’t dating and is focused on work and raising her family.
“It’s all about work and the kids for her,” the source said. “She seems happy and content.”
