Jenelle Evans Officially Divorced from David Eason Over a Year After Separation

Jenelle Evans has officially ended her marriage to David Eason, with the divorce finalized on Friday, July 11, according to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE.

The former Teen Mom 2 star was granted the divorce after meeting North Carolina’s separation requirements. TMZ first reported the news.

Court records show the couple’s separation date as February 16, 2024.

Evans had filed for permanent separation from Eason in March 2024, with her representative confirming the filing to PEOPLE at that time.

North Carolina Divorce Requirements

North Carolina law requires couples to live separately for at least a year and a day before filing for divorce. According to the North Carolina Judicial Branch, both parties must live in different homes with at least one spouse intending the separation to be permanent.

Evans officially filed for divorce in May 2025.

She celebrated with a “divorce party” in New York the following month.

Marriage and Family Background

Evans and Eason married in September 2017 after getting engaged that February. The couple welcomed their daughter, Ensley Jolie Eason, now 8, in January 2017.

Evans is also mother to Kaiser Orion Griffith, 11, with ex Nathan Griffith, and Jace Vahn Evans, 15, with ex Andrew Lewis.

“After a really long and draining process, my divorce from David is official,” Evans said in a statement to TMZ. “This chapter has been heavy, but I’m walking away from it with clarity, strength and so much love for my kids.”

She continued: “My focus is on them and our future and I’m just thankful to finally have peace and a fresh start.”

Previous Separation and Legal Issues

Evans first announced their separation in a May 2024 TikTok video, stating “I filed for separation.” She later posted another video explaining North Carolina’s requirement to file for separation before divorce.

This wasn’t the couple’s first breakup.

They previously split briefly in late 2019 but reconciled several months later in early 2020. The relationship weathered multiple legal troubles during their marriage.

In February 2019, Evans called police claiming Eason assaulted her. She later told E! News it was “a drunk and dramatic misunderstanding.”

The most serious incident occurred in May 2019 when Evans temporarily lost custody of her two younger children after Eason allegedly shot and killed the family dog. Eason claimed the dog had bitten their then-2-year-old daughter in the face.

Evans regained custody of her children that July, confirming the news to PEOPLE.

Eason faced additional legal issues in November 2021 when he was charged with driving with a revoked license and possessing an open container.
