Isla Fisher says she’s ready for her next chapter after finalizing her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen in June.
The actress opened up to Harper’s Bazaar Australia for the magazine’s August cover story. She admitted she’s “had a tough couple of years” but now she’s “making it through.”
“I’m really excited for the next chapter. I’m refocusing on my career because previously I was very much focused on my kids, which I still am, obviously, because they’re my true love. But I’m enjoying tackling work again.”
Fisher is 49. Cohen is 53.
The couple split in 2023 after 13 years of marriage. They share three children together – two daughters and one son.
The Wedding Crashers star told the magazine that “one of the benefits of a challenging situation” has been “the luxury of asking myself, ‘What would I like to do professionally and privately?'”
She’s working on rebuilding her identity as a single person.
“I’m trying to remind myself of my new identity as somebody outside of a partnership and to stay as buoyant as possible. Any time there’s change, it’s hard to adapt. But hopefully I’m doing an okay job.”
The Relationship Timeline
Cohen and Fisher first met in 2001 at a party in Sydney. They got engaged in 2004 and tied the knot in Paris in 2010. Their first child was born in 2007.
The former couple announced their divorce was finalized in a joint statement on Instagram Stories in June.
“We are proud of all we’ve achieved together and, continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children. We ask for the media to continue to respect our children’s privacy.”
Staying Supportive
The English actor and Australian actress have showed support for one another on social media since their split.
Just days after revealing their divorce was finalized, Fisher wished Cohen a happy Father’s Day online.
“And forever … Happy Father’s Day to the best father our children could hope for @sachabaroncohen.”
Months before, the Borat star left a friendly message on Fisher’s Valentine’s Day post. He complimented her “stunning photoshoot” for The Sunday Times.
Cohen also commented “Great shoot” on Fisher’s recent Instagram post showing photos from her Harper’s Bazaar spread.
Fisher’s upcoming projects include Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
