Influencer Kelley Lorraine Shares Emotional Update After Divorce Announcement

Kelley Lorraine is opening up about her separation from Luis Joel.

The content creator announced on July 17 that she had separated from her husband and they would be getting divorced. Lorraine has over 2.9 million followers on TikTok.

“This isn’t an easy post to write, but after a lot of reflection and many difficult conversations, my husband and I have separated and are getting divorced,”

Lorraine captioned a tearful video she posted to TikTok.

“This has been the hardest few months of my life and something I never anticipated.”

A few weeks later, on Aug. 6, Lorraine updated her followers.

“Some days are harder than others,”

she wrote.

“We are getting divorced. I know it’s for the best.”

The pair first started dating in 2017 despite having a 16-year age gap. But as they were getting to know each other over the first few weeks, Joel’s world was turned upside down when Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.

Three of his kids lived there with his ex-wife.

“There was no communication. The town that they lived in was completely destroyed,”

Joel recalled in an interview with PEOPLE last year.

“There was a period of over 30 days where I had no idea if my kids were okay or had made it through the storm. Being able to finally make contact was the biggest relief.”

It was actually Lorraine who suggested that Joel attempt to bring his kids to live with them. Joel thought he couldn’t ask her to take that on so early in their relationship.

But Lorraine insisted. She bought the kids’ plane tickets and let him know she was all in.

“I knew going into the relationship with him that he had older kids and I knew that if I was going to be with him and date him, then that meant that at some point in the relationship we’d need to start exploring and things like that,”

she told PEOPLE.

The pair’s new blended family was a big adjustment. The kids were 17, 14 and 12 at the time, and they were still processing a move from Puerto Rico to the continental United States.

Over the next eight years, the duo tied the knot and welcomed two kids of their own. They shared their journey with followers and grew their social media platforms along the way.

Their content together included family updates, goofy skits and their recent attendance at several Hollywood premieres.

Now, following her split, Kelley said in a TikTok post that she’s “taking things one day at a time and trying to find my new normal moving forward.”

On July 23, several days after she announced her divorce, she posted a video with her friend Ana Carina.

“You can get through anything in life as long as you have one good friend,”

she wrote.

“I think the universe knew how much we would need each other over the years”
