Glen Powell appeared on the cover of GQ’s special issue wearing a massive muscle suit that gave him exaggerated leg muscles. The 36-year-old actor posed in a white tank top and boxer briefs for the magazine’s “The State of the American Male in 2025” feature.
“Au naturel,” Powell joked in an Instagram post showing the cover.
The photo shoot also featured the Twisters star in other scenarios, including sticking his face into a bowl of ice water and drinking egg yolks while holding a baseball bat.
GQ’s special issue explores topics facing American men today. The magazine describes it as covering “wide-ranging topics facing American men, reveals findings on issues that divide men in today’s society, features interviews with high-profile men across areas spanning from politics to fashion.”
The issue serves as a follow-up to GQ’s “New Masculinity” issue from 2019.
Powell Discusses Hollywood Typecasting
Powell told GQ he’s different from how Hollywood often casts him.
“I’ve never been Mr Cool. And what’s funny is that you start getting cast in certain things – like Hangman is not me, right? I’m not that guy,”
he said, referring to his Top Gun: Maverick character.
“That’s the funny part about Hollywood. You can’t really choose it. People have to cast you in these movies. And I think what I started realizing is that people got enjoyment out of watching me be really cocky and confident.”
The actor is currently promoting his Hulu series Chad Powers and upcoming movie The Running Man.
Views on Modern Masculinity
Powell shared his thoughts on changing ideas about masculinity, particularly around health and wellness.
“I feel like that is one of those things, the health and wellness thing, that used to not feel like guys owning that space as much. And I do feel like the tide is gonna turn on that, where it’s a space that I’ve been really interested in for a while, but I feel like it’s also now becoming a little bit more in vogue.”
He described how he brings friends together differently now.
“When I go back to LA, when I socialize and bring guys together, instead of just going, ‘Hey, let’s all go grab a drink,’ a lot of times I’ll just bring ’em all to a sauna and I’ll just load all my buddies in a sauna. And everybody appreciates it. Go sauna and cold plunge together.”
Response to Ex-Girlfriend’s Comments
During the interview, Powell addressed comments made by his ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris about their 2023 breakup. Paris, 33, discussed their relationship on the Too Much podcast in June.
“I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her,”
Powell said.
Paris had said during the podcast that she “fell out of love” with Powell when he asked her not to visit the Anyone But You set in Australia.
A source told PEOPLE in April 2023 that the pair “decided to break up for good” when Paris eventually visited Australia while Powell filmed with Sydney Sweeney. This sparked rumors about Powell and Sweeney having an on-set affair.
“Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she’s welcome to it. Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch, and they will each tell their own narrative,”
Powell told GQ.
