Glen Powell Responds to Ex Gigi Paris Claims About Their Breakup

Glen Powell responded to his ex-girlfriend Gigi Paris‘ public account of their 2023 breakup, telling GQ he maintains respect for her despite their different perspectives on what happened.

“I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her,” Powell said in his cover interview published Tuesday.

The 36-year-old actor was addressing comments Paris made on the Too Much podcast in June. Paris, 33, said she “fell out of love” with Powell when he asked her not to visit the set of Anyone But You in Australia.

The couple split in April 2023 while Powell was filming the romantic comedy with Sydney Sweeney. Rumors spread about Powell and Sweeney having an on-set affair.

Powell acknowledged that breakups create competing narratives.

“Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she’s welcome to it. Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch and they will each tell their own narrative.”

The Relationship Timeline

Powell and Paris dated for four years, beginning in 2019.

A source told PEOPLE their relationship “had been on the rocks since Top Gun: Maverick” came out in 2022. Paris “was never happy” with Powell’s filming schedule, which created distance between them.

Paris said she traveled to Australia “just to look him in the eye and break up with him.” She claimed she was “not allowed anywhere near” the Anyone But You production.

The model criticized Powell for not shutting down romance rumors with Sweeney during their breakup.

“Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that,'” Paris said on the podcast. “That’s all that needed to be said. And that wasn’t said. … Never once.”

Sweeney later revealed in August 2023 that she and Powell deliberately played into the romance rumors to promote their movie.

Handling Fame

Powell didn’t elaborate further on the split but shared advice from Tom Cruise about managing public attention.

“He basically said, ‘Hey, it’s going to get really, really loud. It’s your job to just turn the volume down. Just remember you have your hand on that switch,'” Powell recalled. “And really just turning down the noise and trusting your own gut has been a real godsend for me.”

The actor is promoting his upcoming Hulu series Chad Powers, which premieres September 30, and The Running Man, hitting theaters November 14.
