Farmer Wants a Wife Stars John Sansone & Claire Dirette Split Over Private Challenges

John Sansone and Claire Dirette have split, PEOPLE has confirmed.

The Farmer Wants a Wife couple called it quits months after the season 3 finale aired in May. Sansone confirmed the breakup in a now-deleted Instagram post on Aug. 16, according to Parade.

“I would like to share that Claire and I ended our relationship shortly after Lollapalooza, over a week ago,” he wrote.

“This was a mutual decision based on private challenges, and had nothing to do with any reposts. While I’ll always appreciate and respect the time we shared together, I feel it’s best to move forward separately. While our relationship was public, I wish for this chapter to remain as private as possible.”

He thanked fans for their “kindness and support.”

Though the original post has since been deleted, PEOPLE has confirmed the split.

Us Weekly reported that Dirette reposted Sansone’s breakup announcement on her Instagram Stories, writing, “I ain’t reading all that but ditto.”

Dirette also hinted at the breakup across multiple TikTok posts.

One day before the split news surfaced, Dirette shared a TikTok that featured her lip-synching lyrics from Sabrina Carpenter’s “Don’t Smile.” The song’s chorus contains the lyrics: “Don’t smile because it happened, baby, cry because it’s over (I want you to miss me, I want you to miss me).”

Later, she posted a TikTok with “life goes on” written across it. It contained audio from BoJack Horseman, which went, “Yeah, well, what are you gonna do? Life’s a bitch and then you die, right? … Sometimes. Sometimes, life’s a bitch and then you keep living.”

In another TikTok, Dirette mouthed a quote from Kylie Jenner on Keeping Up with the Kardashians: “Dude, I’m getting my personality back though. Like, I’m feeling like myself again.”

She also shared a Get Ready with Me-style video ahead of her “much needed night out in Chicago,” where she now resides.

Dirette Thanks Fans for Support

Dirette thanked fans on social media for the “kind messages” they sent her in the wake of the split.

“big thank you to everyone who has sent me kind messages over the past 24 hours!” she began.

“all the love and support has gotten me though it,” she added. “.”

The Show’s Season 3 Finale

Sansone and Dirette were one of the last couples standing after the FOX reality show’s season 3 finale concluded in May.

At the time, Farmer Colton Hendricks chose Zoe Green, Farmer Jay Woods chose Grace Clark, and Farmer Matt Warren chose Chelsi Davis. Warren and Davis still remain together post-show.

At the end of the season, Sansone chose Dirette over Lily Ayres. Going into decision day, he was “confident” he was making the right choice.

“Every day, I’ve had the privilege of watching you come into your own, and I admire your stoic attitude towards life. You have just a calming presence. It really makes me feel happy, calm, and I really enjoy just having you around. I think we can both agree that farm work isn’t your forte, but that’s okay, because that doesn’t even matter.”

“You’ve surprised me every single day, and you continue to surprise me now,” he added.

Their Many Differences

Speaking with PEOPLE after the finale, the then-couple opened up about their many differences.

“It’s kind of funny because we talk about how different we are on the show, and one of the big things is I grew up vegetarian and he goes hunting,” Dirette said.

“Claire’s also not a vegetarian,” Sansone responded, to which Dirette replied, “Anymore – my mom’s going to watch this!”

Dirette also noted that understanding one another had come easily for the pair. Their differences hadn’t “been an issue” as they “did a good job of being really true to ourselves on the show, and we have done our best not to change that.”

Agreeing with her, Sansone said their communication was “one of the strongest” parts of their relationship.

“I think that’s what’s kept us going so strong and also helped us to navigate our differences so well,” he said. “Because we’re able to just have normal, cool-headed conversations and learn from each other.”

Farmer Wants a Wife is now streaming on Hulu.
