Eric McCormack and Janet Leigh Holden McCormack have finalized their divorce two years after filing.
According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the Will and Grace star and his wife settled their divorce outside of court. On Nov. 5, McCormack filed a declaration for an uncontested dissolution of his marriage to Janet. The documents show they reached terms in a written agreement.
Both parties waived their rights to notice of trial, a statement of decision, a motion for new trial and the right to appeal.
Once a judge approves the request, the two will officially be divorced.
The update comes after Janet filed for divorce from Eric in November 2023. She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
At the time, she was seeking spousal support and requesting the court end Eric’s ability to receive spousal support.
While the two agreed on spousal support terms, details of their final agreement haven’t been made public. The documents were filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court.
How They Met
The former couple first met in 1994 on the set of the CBS series Lonesome Dove. Janet worked as the assistant director while Eric portrayed Col. Francis Clay Mosby.
They married in August 1997 and share one son, Finnigan Holden McCormack.
In April 2020, Eric shared a photo of him and Janet at the 1994 Lonesome Dove wrap party. It was their first official photo together.
“This is the first shot Janet & I took at the #LonesomeDove Season 1 Wrap Party, circa Dec ’94. Just so happens this was our ‘coming out’ party. No one on the show knew we’d been dating for months.”
In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, McCormack shared details about how he met Janet.
“I met my wife, Janet, in 1994 on the set of a TV series. She was the assistant director. I was just coming out of a relationship, and not to be trusted. I’d been dating actresses but Janet was different. She wore jeans, drove a pick-up truck.”
Janet wasn’t initially interested in dating Eric. She understood actors were “a lot of work.”
“It would be like taking your work home with you. But I managed to convince her. We had a secret affair the first season. I mean, dating crew! Actually, it was much worse for her, because she wasn’t supposed to give any of the actors preferential treatment.”
The divorce marks the end of their 26-year marriage.
