Dwight Howard’s wife has filed for divorce after just six months of marriage, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Amber Rose Howard, who performs under the name Amy Luciani as a rapper, filed the divorce papers in a Georgia courthouse on July 1. She cited that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no prospects for reconciliation.”
The couple married on January 11, 2025.
A mutual restraining order was also filed one day after the divorce papers. The restraining order was originally entered by both parties on January 2, 2025.
Financial Requests
Amber is requesting that all marital assets and property be split equally between her and the 39-year-old NBA champion.
She’s also asking the court for alimony payments.
The divorce filing came just days after Howard opened up about the death of his dog in a hit-and-run incident that he called “heartless.”
Current Activities
Howard was seen vacationing in Jamaica on July 8, according to his Instagram posts. He currently plays for Ice Cube’s Big3 League on the team L.A. Riot.
The league is on a bye week before games resume on July 13.
In June, the former Dancing With the Stars contestant made headlines for a fight with fellow ex-NBA player Lance Stephenson. Both Howard and Stephenson, 34, were ejected from the season opener after their scuffle spilled into the crowd at Allstate Arena.
Recent Personal Loss
Two weeks after the Big3 incident, Howard shared news about his dog’s death on social media.
“I’m devastated because you were the dog that never left my side, the dog that stuck to my hip at all times, and the one time you wander off without me being there, someone takes you away from me. Who could be so heartless to do this to such an innocent girl with no remorse?”
Howard described the dog as his “protector” and his “baby” in the Instagram post.
Howard won an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020. He’s widely known as an elite defensive player who took his talents overseas to Taiwan from 2022 through May 2023.
Besides competing on Dancing With the Stars, he also appeared on Fox’s competition series Special Forces in 2023.
The father of five hasn’t publicly responded to the divorce filing.
