Drake liked a comment calling rapper Sexyy Red a “Serena Williams upgrade” on his recent Instagram post. The social media move targets his former girlfriend, whom he dated on and off from 2011 to 2015.
The “NOKIA” rapper posted tennis-themed photos with Sexyy Red on Monday. He captioned the carousel, “I said tennis lesson she said where’s the bracelet or the necklace.”
One comment under the post read “Serena Williams upgrade” with fire emojis.
Drake liked the comment. Another user called him “messy for liking” the jab at Williams.
The social media behavior comes months after Williams defended her Super Bowl appearance. The tennis champion told Time in April that her cameo in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show was “absolutely not” shade at Drake.
Williams danced during Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us.” The song is a diss track aimed at Drake.
“I would never do that,” Williams said in her Time interview. “It’s sad that anyone would ever think that. I respect how they could. Obviously I can see how someone would think that, but absolutely not.”
Williams added she’s never had negative feelings toward Drake. “We’ve known him for so many years,” she said.
The tennis star’s Super Bowl appearance recreated her 2012 celebration. Williams did the crip walk after defeating Maria Sharapova at the London Olympics. The dance move originated with the Los Angeles Crips in the 1970s.
Williams told Time she wasn’t sure if she regretted the performance.
Drake referenced Williams in his 2013 song “Worst Behavior.” He sang, “I’m with my whole set, tennis matches at the crib / I swear I could beat Serena when she playin’ with her left.”
The rapper was linked to the 23-time Grand Slam champion in 2015. They’d been friends for years before dating.
