A Los Angeles judge has granted Denise Richards a five-year restraining order against her ex-husband Aaron Phypers, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The ruling came down on November 7. The order expires on November 7, 2030.
The decision follows months of legal proceedings after Phypers filed for divorce in July, ending their six-year marriage. Richards subsequently made physical abuse claims against her former husband.
The restraining order includes several specific restrictions.
Phypers cannot own or purchase firearms. He’s banned from contacting Richards or disturbing her peace. If they do communicate, Richards can record their conversations.
The order also requires Phypers to return Richards’ laptop and delete videos of her surgeries from all his devices and iCloud account.
He’s prohibited from sharing photos of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum or providing information about her to the media.
Richards first received a temporary restraining order on July 16, just 11 days after Phypers filed for divorce.
She testified last month that Phypers “caused me at least three concussions.”
Richards detailed several alleged incidents during her court testimony. She claimed he gave her a black eye on January 17, 2022.
Another incident allegedly occurred between March and May 2022 at Phypers’ wellness center. Richards testified he “slammed me up against the concrete wall and my head hit it” in the carport.
The third alleged concussion happened at a Chicago hotel in April 2025. Richards said Phypers “was squeezing my head so hard” and “picked my head up.” She described it as feeling “like he was crushing my skull.”
“He’s almost killed me so many damn times,” Richards told the judge.
Richards also testified about threats and verbal abuse. She said Phypers “made me feel vulnerable” after her surgeries and “would often threaten to throw me through the windows and off balconies” of hotels.
She described another alleged incident from September.
Richards accused Phypers of returning to her townhome to retrieve his laptop. She claimed he demanded her phone, which she hid in her shorts. According to her testimony, he then “grabbed me by both arms and then pushed me down on the stairs” before leaving with her laptop, purse and credit cards.
Phypers denied all abuse allegations during his testimony.
He stated clearly: “I never physically harmed Denise Richards… I never threatened to harm her… I did not threaten to kill anybody.”
Phypers called Richards’ testimony fabricated.
“A lot of people like to be close to the stars. They’ll do things for them,” he added.
The five-year restraining order represents a significant legal victory for Richards. It provides long-term protection while formally ending their contentious court battle.
Richards, 54, and Phypers, 53, married in 2018. Their divorce proceedings continue separately from the restraining order case.
