Chase Stokes appears to have addressed his relationship status with Kelsea Ballerini through a series of Instagram Stories posts that suggest their recent reconciliation attempt has ended.
The Outer Banks actor posted cryptic messages on Thursday that didn’t mention Ballerini by name but seemed to reference their situation. “Don’t believe the media. I’m blocked, I did nothing wrong,” Stokes wrote in his first post.
Neither Stokes nor Ballerini currently follow each other on Instagram.
“Sorry I tried,” he continued.
In a second post, Stokes made a clearer reference to their relationship. “I’m sorry for those who believed in us,” he wrote. “It is what it is. Onwards and upwards.”
Representatives for both Stokes and Ballerini haven’t responded to requests for comment about the posts.
Recent Reconciliation Attempt
PEOPLE confirmed in September that Stokes, 33, and Ballerini, 32, had split after nearly three years together. A source said at the time that they were “two adults who gave it their all and tried to do everything they could to make it work, but ultimately couldn’t.”
The couple appeared to reconcile earlier this month when they were spotted together in Dubrovnik, Croatia on November 7th.
An onlooker saw them at a restaurant “holding hands at the table and talking closely.” The witness added, “After they got up, they walked together hand in hand towards Old Town. They looked very cute.”
Social Media Drama
Stokes’ Instagram posts came three days after he defended Ballerini in the comments of her TikTok video promoting her new EP, Mount Pleasant.
“These comments are f—ing weird. Grow up,” he wrote.
He was responding to fans making references to both him and his ex-girlfriend Madelyn Cline, who’s also his Outer Banks co-star.
Ballerini’s new music explores themes of jealousy about a partner’s ex on tracks like “Emerald City.” She performed her new song “I Sit in Parks” at the CMAs on November 19th.
The timing of Stokes’ posts suggests that whatever reconciliation the couple attempted during their Croatia trip didn’t last long.
