ABC’s Bachelor in Paradise delivered its biggest shock of season 10 when Susie Evans made a surprise entrance just as her ex Justin Glaze was navigating a new romance with Lexi Young.
The July 14 episode saw Lexi putting the brakes on her relationship with Justin. She worried he wasn’t over his breakup from four months earlier.
Justin tried to reassure her he was ready for something new. Then Susie walked onto the beach.
“I wouldn’t call it spiraling, but I wasn’t expecting that. Now I’m stressing.”
The Ex Factor
Justin hadn’t seen Susie since their split. Their first conversation on camera showed the unresolved emotions between them.
“I’ve just been in my head since I got here. I feel like seeing you, it’s a lot to process. It’s hard.”
Susie broke down crying during their talk.
“It’s hard to be here with him, but at the same time, it’s kind of comforting because I’ve never had anything like what Justin and I had.”
The emotional reunion left viewers wondering if sparks might reignite between the former couple.
Clearing the Air
Susie made her intentions clear in a conversation with Lexi. She wasn’t there to win Justin back.
The reassurance worked. Lexi decided she wanted to keep exploring their connection after all.
“An entire weight was lifted off my shoulders. And so I just really wanted to reassure him tonight and let him know that I am still in this, and I do still care.”
Lexi asked Justin to move forward together. She promised to communicate better if concerns came up about his past with Susie.
Justin seemed relieved by her change of heart.
The Friendship Card
While Lexi and Justin reconnected, Susie faced her own drama. She’d gone on a date with Jeremy Simon but worried she didn’t have enough time to earn his rose.
Justin found Susie later that evening. Their conversation revealed the depth of their bond.
“I feel guilty because I feel like a main reason why this experience has been better for me is because of you. You have given me so much. You are always the one giving, right, and you’re always the one that’s getting the short end of the stick.”
He referenced a promise they’d made before coming on the show.
“I don’t want to think back to me and you on my sofa, and we pinky promised to protect each other and make sure we’re good.”
Susie reminded him their friendship came first, before they ever dated.
Rose Ceremony Chaos
The episode’s biggest twist came at the rose ceremony.
Jeremy gave his rose to Bailey instead of Susie. Justin faced a choice between Lexi and protecting his ex.
He chose Susie.
“You mean the world to me. I told you no matter what, I would protect you and have your back. You deserve it.”
But Susie shocked everyone by turning him down.
“I can’t accept the rose.”
Lexi watched her worst fears play out in real time.
“I’ve just had this gut feeling the entire time that this would happen, but I decided to give it a shot because I had genuine feelings.”
The situation spiraled from there. Susie tried explaining her reasoning to the other women while holding Lexi’s hand.
“I feel like he was trying to sacrifice his position for me to stay and meet people next week. It just should have been, Justin gives his rose to Lexi, and I go home.”
Then Justin walked out of the ceremony entirely.
The episode ended with Susie apologizing to Lexi and promising to talk to Justin.
“I’m so sorry. I’m gonna go talk to him because I know he’s just trying to do the right thing.”
