Amy Schumer Receives Celebrity Support During Divorce

Amy Schumer announced she’s divorcing husband Chris Fischer after seven years of marriage. The comedian’s celebrity friends quickly rallied with support after her Instagram post went live.

The 44-year-old shared the news on December 12 with her signature humor intact.

“Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years,” Schumer wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the pair riding the subway. “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son.”

The couple shares 6-year-old son Gene David.

Schumer’s post continued with typical candor. “We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time. blah blah blah not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag s basket and not because he’s a hot James beard award winning chef who can still pull some hot tail,” she wrote. “Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”

Celebrity Support Pours In

Famous friends flooded the comments with love and encouragement.

Sharon Stone left clapping emojis. Olivia Munn, Debra Messing, Leslie Mann, and Linda Evangelista all commented with red heart emojis.

Sophia Bush, who finalized her own divorce from Grant Hughes this year, offered personal insight.

“It’s so damn hard without having it be hard for the world to see… so when the world sees I’ll just say be extra gentle with yourself. All love,” Bush wrote.

Gayle King praised Schumer’s approach to the announcement. “Amy been there never easy..,” King commented. “Only YOU could make THIS announcement w/humor & love …. Wishing you BOTH the very best.”

Andy Cohen also showed support in the comments section.

Behind the Split

A source close to the couple told PEOPLE the divorce is proceeding smoothly.

“There’s nothing ugly. It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalizing a few things,” the source said.

Schumer and Fischer married in February 2018. Online speculation about their relationship had been circulating for weeks before the announcement.

A source told PEOPLE on November 13 that “they are both committed to the relationship.”

Recent Updates

Schumer addressed her marriage publicly just eleven days before the divorce announcement.

On December 1, she shared an update about her relationship while discussing her recent health journey.

“Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” Schumer wrote. “Fingers crossed we make it through. He’s the best.”

Fischer is a James Beard Award-winning chef. The couple has maintained they’ll continue co-parenting their son together.

Schumer is known for her frank approach to personal topics in her comedy and public statements. Her Trainwreck co-stars and comedy colleagues continue showing support as the news spreads across social media.
