Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, better known as Halsey, has never really done things by the book. Growing up in Edison, New Jersey, she got her start the way a lot of young musicians hope to – by releasing her own songs online and catching the attention of a fast-growing fanbase. By the time her debut album, Badlands, dropped in 2015, she’d already built a reputation for wearing her heart on her sleeve, singing openly about everything from mental health and sexuality to heartbreak and healing. The blue hair and striking visuals might have grabbed headlines, but it was always Halsey’s honesty that made people stick around.
If you listen to tracks like “Without Me” or “Bad At Love,” you can hear the push and pull between pop hooks and an unmistakable alternative bite. There’s a reason so many fans feel seen by her music – she’s been refreshingly upfront about living with bipolar disorder and endometriosis, and she’s never shied away from the messier parts of life.
Relationships and Parenthood
Halsey’s openness doesn’t stop at her music, but over the years, she’s definitely adjusted how much of her personal life she shares with the world. Early in her career, relationships often played out in the public eye, sometimes fueling rumors and tabloid headlines that were tough to avoid.
Her most talked-about relationship in recent years has been with screenwriter Alev Aydin. The two started out as friends and kept things low-key before Halsey surprised everyone in January 2021 by announcing her pregnancy on Instagram. Their son, Ender Ridley Aydin, was born that July. While rumors swirled about a breakup in 2023, neither of them has really addressed it; they seem focused on co-parenting and keeping some privacy in their lives.
Before Aydin, there was a string of high-profile relationships – actor Evan Peters (late 2019 to early 2020), British musician Yungblud in 2019, and most famously, rapper G-Eazy, with whom she had an on-and-off relationship from 2017 to 2018. “Without Me” is widely believed to draw from the ups and downs of that romance. More recently, Halsey was spotted with actor Avan Jogia in September 2023, sparking rumors (and a few gleeful tabloid stories) about a possible engagement. True to form these days, Halsey’s kept quiet – her silence a stark contrast to the social media confessions of a few years ago.
In an interview with Rolling Stone back in 2020, Halsey put it simply: “Love is messy, and that’s what makes it beautiful.” It’s a sentiment that runs through her music and her public life – a willingness to celebrate the good and the bad, without pretending things are perfect.
Her journey into motherhood has brought another layer to her story. Promoting her 2021 album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, she got candid about how pregnancy and parenthood changed her sense of self. Struggles with endometriosis and multiple miscarriages made her path to becoming a mom far from straightforward; she’s talked about the physical and emotional weight of it all, and how it’s shifted her priorities.

Through it all – career, relationships, health battles, and motherhood – Halsey has stayed remarkably resilient. She’s been honest about the ugly parts of fame and the pressure to have it all figured out, but there’s a core determination in the way she keeps moving forward. In the spotlight or out of it, she’s finding ways to build a life that feels honest – on her own terms.
