Avan Jogia first grabbed fans’ attention as Beck Oliver on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious,” where his laid-back vibe and, let’s be real, flawless hair made him a teen heartthrob almost overnight. While many child stars struggle to break out of their early roles, Jogia took a different route – choosing projects that challenged both himself and the expectations that came with fame at a young age.

Born in Vancouver, Jogia has a mixed heritage – his father is British-Indian and his mother is English-German – a background that’s shaped both his worldview and the jobs he takes on. He’s spent much of his career moving away from the “teen idol” box, tackling offbeat or boundary-pushing roles in shows like “Now Apocalypse,” the comedic-horror hit “Zombieland: Double Tap,” and the indie film “Door Mouse,” which he directed himself.

“I’m interested in characters that exist in gray areas,” Jogia told Interview Magazine. “People are complicated, and I want my work to reflect that complexity.”

Behind the camera flashes and movie posters, Jogia’s personal life has been far quieter than the typical Hollywood narrative. For six years, he was in a relationship with actress Zoey Deutch, after they met working together on “The Year of Spectacular Men.” Despite attending events together, the couple mostly kept things private and out of gossip columns.

After their split in 2017, Jogia started dating Australian actress Cleopatra Coleman. The relationship lasted around four years and, again, was decidedly low-key – a rare feat in the entertainment industry. By 2021, though, the couple had reportedly gone their separate ways.

Lately, Jogia’s name has popped up in headlines thanks to his connection with singer Halsey. The two were first spotted together in September 2023, instantly sparking relationship rumors. They’ve since been photographed together several times, but neither has said much publicly – no lengthy Instagram captions or splashy interviews – so much of their status remains private. There’s been plenty of speculation about an engagement, but as of now, nothing’s been confirmed by either side.

Before these longer relationships, Jogia’s love life inspired plenty of rumors, too. He was linked briefly to Miley Cyrus back in 2010, though neither ever confirmed it. And thanks to their chemistry on “Victorious,” fans often shipped him with co-star Victoria Justice, but both have insisted they were just close friends.

A colleague once described Jogia as “intensely private about things that matter to him,” and that seems to go double for his relationships. When he rarely does mention romance in interviews, he talks about partnership as a space for mutual growth – not just Hollywood convenience.

“When you’re in this industry, finding someone who gets the pressures and weird schedule is important,” he told a reporter in 2018, “but it’s more important to find someone who reminds you there’s a whole world outside of all this.”

Whether it’s with who he dates or the roles he chooses, Jogia seems to follow his own rules, opting for depth and authenticity instead of flash or easy publicity. Between directing, writing – his book “Mixed Feelings” came out in 2019 – and quietly living his life off camera, he’s managed to steer clear of the usual pitfalls of fame.
