Anna Ragsdale Camp’s breakout as Aubrey Posen in “Pitch Perfect” made her a household name for many, but her path to the spotlight was paved with a lot of hard work and a diverse set of roles. A South Carolina native born on September 27, 1982, Camp paid her dues with appearances on TV and in indie films before joining the Barden Bellas.
What’s striking about Camp is the way she brings nuance and vulnerability to roles that might easily be played for laughs or left one-note. As Aubrey, she gave us a character who’s not just a stickler for rules and a source of comic relief, but someone with genuine insecurities and depth – and that’s been a pattern throughout her career.
After “Pitch Perfect,” Camp continued to prove her range on television. She’s been a scene-stealer in “True Blood” (where she played the intensely devout Sarah Newlin), “The Good Wife,” “The Mindy Project,” and beyond. Whether the role calls for drama or comedy, Camp tends to bring a spark that makes her performances memorable.
Her personal life has had its share of headlines, too. Camp married actor Michael Mosley in 2010 after several years of dating, though they went their separate ways in 2013. Not long after, sparks flew between her and Skylar Astin on the set of “Pitch Perfect.” Fans cheered when they tied the knot in a sunny California ceremony in 2016, and the two seemed as supportive and loving in real life as their fans hoped. Unfortunately, they announced their split after nearly three years together, finalizing their divorce in 2019.
Despite the usual swirl of Hollywood rumors (some tabloids have paired her with Chris Hemsworth, James Marsden, and John Krasinski – none of which checked out), Camp’s focused on her work, keeping much of her private life under wraps since parting ways with Astin. She was briefly linked to drummer Michael Johnson in 2020, but generally hasn’t made her dating life a matter of public discussion.
In a 2019 chat with Entertainment Tonight, Camp was candid about what she’d learned from love and loss: “I think I’ve learned that you can find love in unexpected places, and sometimes the timing just needs to be right.” There’s a straightforward honesty in her reflection – no drama, just perspective.
What’s clear from her career and interviews is that Camp doesn’t let her romantic history overshadow her work. While some stars end up more famous for their breakups than their acting, Camp continues to take on new and challenging projects, always finding ways to surprise her audience.
